Platform Integration

Your EHR holds every detail.
You're still the one doing the work.

DrChrono stores your patients, schedules, charts, and billing. But someone still has to prep for visits, chase down no-shows, and follow up after every appointment. That someone is now OpenClaw.

OpenClaw connects to DrChrono's full REST API. Patients, appointments, clinical notes, billing, documents. All of it.

Great EHR. Still drowning in admin work.

DrChrono handles charting and scheduling. The rest still falls on you and your staff.

Chart prep eats your mornings

Before every appointment, someone pulls up the patient record, reviews the last visit note, checks for outstanding lab results, and writes a summary. That's 5 to 10 minutes per patient. Multiply by 20 patients a day. Your staff is spending hours on work that could be automated.

No-shows cost you money and nobody follows up fast enough

A patient doesn't show up for their 2 PM. Your front desk might call them tomorrow, maybe the day after. By then the slot is wasted and the patient has moved on. The average no-show costs a small practice $150 to $200 per occurrence. That adds up to thousands every month.

Post-visit follow-ups slip through the cracks

You tell a patient to schedule a follow-up in two weeks. They say they will. They don't. Nobody at your practice notices until the patient calls three months later with a problem that could've been caught earlier. DrChrono tracks appointments, but it doesn't chase patients down.

Billing tasks pile up at the end of every day

DrChrono has billing built in, but someone still needs to verify that line items match the clinical note, check that codes are correct, and push things through. For a small practice without a dedicated biller, this means the provider is doing it at 7 PM. Every night.

OpenClaw + DrChrono Integration

OpenClaw connects to DrChrono through its v4 REST API and webhooks. It reads your schedule, patient records, and clinical data, then takes action. Here's what that looks like.

Automated chart prep before every visit

OpenClaw pulls the patient record from DrChrono's API each morning, reviews the last clinical note, checks for pending lab results and documents, and compiles a summary. By the time your first patient walks in, every chart is prepped. No manual review needed.

No-show detection and instant rescheduling

When a patient misses their appointment, OpenClaw picks it up through DrChrono's appointment status webhook. Within minutes, it sends a message to the patient with a link to reschedule. No waiting until tomorrow. No relying on your front desk to remember.

Follow-up scheduling that doesn't depend on patients

After a visit, OpenClaw reads the clinical note for follow-up instructions. If the note says "return in 2 weeks," OpenClaw creates a task and contacts the patient at the right time to book. If they don't respond, it follows up again. Patients who need care actually get scheduled.

New patient intake before they arrive

When a new appointment is created in DrChrono, OpenClaw checks if the patient record is complete. Missing insurance info, emergency contact, or medical history? It reaches out to the patient with specific requests. By appointment day, the record is filled in and your staff skips the clipboard routine.

Billing line item verification

After each visit, OpenClaw cross-references the clinical note with the billing line items in DrChrono. If a procedure was documented but not billed, or a code looks off, it flags it for review. You catch errors before claims go out, not after they get denied.

Lab result notifications with context

When lab results come back through DrChrono's lab order API, OpenClaw reads the values and compares them to what was ordered. Normal results? It notifies the patient with a simple summary. Abnormal results? It alerts you immediately with the specific values and the patient's history, so you can act fast.

What is OpenClaw?

OpenClaw is an open-source AI assistant that connects to the tools you already use and operates them for you. Email, calendar, EHR, messaging. It reads, it responds, it takes action. It runs on your own devices, so your data stays yours.

It's not a chatbot you paste into a website. It's an operator that works behind the scenes, handling the tasks you keep putting off because there aren't enough hours in the day.

What this looks like in practice

Three real scenarios where OpenClaw and DrChrono work together.

Primary Care

The no-show that gets rebooked in 10 minutes

A patient misses their 3 PM annual physical. DrChrono's webhook fires. OpenClaw picks it up, sends the patient a text within five minutes saying "We missed you today. Want to reschedule?" The patient replies with a preferred day. OpenClaw checks the DrChrono calendar, finds an opening Thursday at 10 AM, and books it. Your front desk never had to make the call.

Dermatology

Follow-ups that actually happen

A dermatologist notes "biopsy follow-up in 10 days" in the clinical note. OpenClaw reads it through the API, sets a reminder, and contacts the patient on day 8. The patient books online. Results are ready. The provider reviews them during the visit instead of scrambling to pull records. Patients who need follow-up care don't fall through the cracks.

Solo Practitioner

Morning chart prep without the morning

A solo internist sees 18 patients a day. Every morning at 6:30 AM, OpenClaw pulls today's schedule from DrChrono, reviews each patient's last visit note, checks for new lab results and documents, and sends the provider a summary by 7:30 AM. By the time the first patient arrives, the provider knows exactly what to expect. No 45-minute chart review session.

How setup works

Three steps. We handle the technical work.

1

We connect OpenClaw to your DrChrono account

We configure OAuth 2.0 authentication with the specific scopes your practice needs (patients, appointments, clinical notes, billing). We set up webhooks so OpenClaw gets notified in real time when appointments change, patients are updated, or lab results arrive. This happens on day one.

2

We configure the AI for your practice

Your appointment types. Your follow-up protocols. Your patient communication preferences. We train OpenClaw on how your practice operates so it handles chart prep, scheduling, and follow-ups the way you would. Not generic. Specific to your specialty and workflow.

3

OpenClaw starts operating your DrChrono

Appointments come in. Charts get prepped. No-shows get rebooked. Follow-ups get scheduled. You review the first few days, tell us what to adjust, and we fine-tune. Within a week, your practice admin runs quieter.

Common questions

Does this replace DrChrono?
No. OpenClaw connects to DrChrono through its REST API and operates it on your behalf. Your EHR account, patient records, and clinical data stay exactly where they are. OpenClaw adds a layer of intelligence on top of the system you already use. Think of it as giving your EHR a brain, not swapping it for a different one.
What DrChrono features can OpenClaw access?
OpenClaw connects to DrChrono's v4 API: patients, appointments, clinical notes, documents, lab orders, prescriptions, billing line items, fee schedules, and task management. It also receives real-time webhooks for appointment changes and patient updates. If DrChrono exposes it through the API, OpenClaw can read it, write to it, and act on it.
How long does setup take?
Most DrChrono integrations are running within 3 to 5 days. The OAuth connection and webhook configuration happen on day one. The remaining time is spent configuring OpenClaw for your specific appointment types, follow-up protocols, and clinical workflow preferences. Within a week, it's handling scheduling and chart prep on its own.
Is patient data secure with OpenClaw?
OpenClaw runs on your own infrastructure, not a third-party cloud. Patient data stays on your devices and passes through DrChrono's encrypted API. We configure the integration with minimum necessary OAuth scopes so OpenClaw only accesses what it needs for your specific workflows. Your data never touches our servers.
Which DrChrono plan do I need?
Any DrChrono plan that includes API access works. Most plans include it by default. If you're unsure, check with DrChrono support or we can verify during the discovery call. The API rate limit is 500 requests per hour, which is more than enough for a typical small practice.
